I own a very small, home-based business and it has not fully recovered from the Great Recession of 2008. Do I blame Barack Obama or Hilary Clinton for the financial mess I’m in? Of course not! If I’m going to blame anyone other than myself I would blame the reckless financial policies of George W. Bush for 8 years and another 8 years of non-stop, obstructionist Republican tactics in Congress.Had the Democrats kept control of Congress for the past 8 years, I would bet my life that my financial situation would be much better.
What grieves me so much is how brilliant the Republican Party is at getting people to vote against their own best self-interest. Who do you think is going to strengthen Age Anti-Discrimination laws? Duh! The Democrats. Who do you think is going to appoint Federal judges that more rigorously enforce Age Anti-Discrimination laws? Duh! A Democratic President. Who do you think is going to be more aggressive in enforcing antitrust laws? Duh! A Democratic President. Who do you think is going to stabilize and /or increase the safety net? Duh! The Democrats. Who is going to increase job training? Duh! The Democrats! Who is going to make higher education more affordable? Duh! The Democrats!
I could go on and on for pages. The average person does not have a clue how government operates. All they know is that the rich are getting richer and they want a bigger piece of the pie. Donald Trump promises he’ll kiss their middle-class asses if he gets elected and “all” their troubles will be over. Never mind the Republicans are doing everything in their power to kiss the asses of the Rich and Powerful at the same damn time! Yikes! When will the American people finally wake-up and stop supporting a bunch of ruthless and conniving hypocrites! The Republicans in Congress, along with Donald Trump, could care less about the average American except at election time!
